  1. Through an incredible twist of fate, my then 14 year old daughter, Sadie, and I were invited to a Meet and Greet with Joe Frazier this past September 2nd @ Moe's Hot Dog House in Philadelphia.

After seeing a documentary about Smokin' Joe, I was wishfully hoping to briefly meet him when I tried contacting his office in August. However, because of the timing of my call, Sadie and I were placed on an exclusive list of fans. We were to meet Joe Frazier and spend more than 2 hours with him over lunch. You can't imagine the thrill!

Meeting the world famous sports figure was great, but this was only the beginning. Once introduced to him, we were treated by Smokin' Joe to a surprisingly down-to-earth, genuine attention. He answered our questions, told us stories, posed for unlimited photos, kidded with us, and signed autographs. We weren't just meeting a sports icon, we were having fun doing it!

Joe's staff all worked to draw us into a special circle, providing an amazing experience and making us feel like old friends. Indeed, when the 2 hours were up (all too soon) we slowly broke company, departing as old friends and relatives reluctantly returning to a dull routine. Yes, Joe Frazier and his staff had certainly made my daughter and I feel special. In fact, they had made us feel like we were part of his family.

  4. Happy Birthday Joe Frazier! I can only thank you for being such a great role model. I wasn't even born when you had your great fights, yet your efforts left a big mark on my life and I am sure on many others too. Persistent, humble, hard-working, we all can learn from this (though not all can become a mean machine like you). All the best from Germany.

I just wanted to send you happy birthday wishes and hope you have many more.

You are the reason I love boxing, and are my favorite fighter. My first memory of boxing was when my dad made me watch the third fight with you and Ali (which you won)and I was hooked ever since. You are an honor to the sport, and boxing is in the poor state it is because there are not more boxers like you fighting today.

  18. Joe, I'm a young man, at 22 years of age, but have always appreciated the way you approached your career. The fact that Ali has become a worldwide figure shows to me exactly what is wrong with the world. The man simply did not deserve that, or the victory in Manilla. Either way, anyone who knows anything what-so-ever about the sport of boxing truly appreciates you. I hope you have a great birthday, and take solice that many great men weren't appreciated as they should have been, but it doesn't make them any less great. I have so much more to say, but it's hard to find the words. I hope "Thanks" will suffice. Thank you Joe.

I was reading William Detloff's article on you and just wanted to wish you the best on your 66th.

My wife's from Philly and has made me a fan of the City of Brotherly Love and those who made it great. You are on that list, a true living legend.

Bernard Hopkins may be Philadelphia's new boxing standard bearer, he wouldn't be in the limelight without you and the path you pioneered in the world of boxing.

Bless you and your family. May your 66th birthday be the beginning of yet another great era in your already prolific and spectactular life.

BTW when you get the chance, please reprint those "Joe Frazier's Gym" t-shirts and sell them on the site! I want to get a set for the whole family and feel that maybe us fans can get you a few $$$ for your retirement.

I'm from London, England, and I'm a huge boxing fan. I have a big framed picture of you on display in my study. I'm a real fan of yours and I've got many of your fights on DVD.

You were the heavyweight champion of the world and it doesn't get any better than that. You ruled the division during one of the tougest eras and I'm sure you'd clean up today. I'd put money on you over the Klitschko brothers any day! All these guys, including Nicolay Valuev, Alexander Povetkin and Eddie Chambers, should be glad there isn't a Smokin' Joe around today 'cos they'd be in major trouble!

Are you going to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in June this year? I sure hope so.

  43. Dear Mr. Frazier:

First, and somewhat belatedly (by a day or two), I would like to wish you a very Happy Birthday.

Second, as a long-time boxing fan creeping up on his 57th birthday, I vividly remember your career, and your ability combined with your quality of character made an enduring mark on the sport and the wider world.

Time alters perception, and winnows out the transient excitement of the moment from what has real value and which endures. Your reputation, as enormous as it was during your career, has continued to grow. You are a legend; how many people can say that? More importantly, how many people have that said about them by others? You're one of those very, very few.

You are a true inspiration, and it hurts me to know that I will probably never meet you. You are a great role model and I hope that God will bless your life after boxing as much as he did during it. Happy Birthday Champ!

  53. Hello Joe!

As a guy who was just a little kid when you were doing your part to make the 70's and 80's some of the best times in boxing history, I want to thank you for all you did for the sport, and for us, the fans. The "Thrilla in Manila" goes down as one of my favorite fights. The way you and Muhammad put on an absolute war of skill and courage, is something I'll never forget. Seems like we just don't see great battles like that too much any more.

As I grew up, and began to understand life and boxing more and more, the more I came to really appreciate your courage and talent as a fighter. And now as an adult, having read your fantastic book, "How to Box Like the Pros", I appreciate you even more! I now enjoy watching boxing more than ever, now that I've had my own exposure to the sport through a few intro lessons from Terry O'Brien at his Shamrock Boxing Club here close to me in Northern Kentucky.

You're an ambassador for the sport, and an embodiment of everything that makes this honorable sport great.

God bless you and your family, and may you all have a happy and prosperous 2010 and beyond sir!

  55. I was fortunate to have had dinner with Joe and his manager, Les Wolff, in Toronto in July of '07. At the time, I was involved in a study for a new cancer drug for prostate cancer. Spending an evening with Joe and Les was a much needed positive boost to my attitude and energy level. Today, I am without cancer and I am convinced that, besides being on the real drug as opposed to placebo, meeting Joe was a significant boost to my immune system.
Joe is a true warrior who gave 110% each time he entered the ring. He and his family survived the racist slurs of Ali in 1971. That Ali ended up on his butt in the last round, punctuated the determination of one of boxing's most celebrated champions.

God Bless Joe, his family; a big thank you to Les Wolff, a man with a heart as big as Joe's.

I recently viewed the documentary, Facing Ali, which was a wonderful documentary, especially from the view of the greatest boxers, yourself included.

I just wanted to say that I didn't know much of the truth surrounding your conflicts with Ali, but now I have a little bit more insight. I just want you to know you a great man and a great champion, a wonderful athlete. I am glad you are in good health and are living well, sad to hear your had to sell your gym though. I surely thought the next champion would come from Philadelphia.

Anyway, I just wanted to say I have recently taken up Boxing thanks to you and you are a big inspiration to me, not only because of your boxing, but more so because of your character and your values.

  63. Yay, "Smokin' Joe" Frazier instantly became my hero, when, as a skinny 8th-grader at Lincoln Jr high(in Park Ridge, IL) I heard the
    round-by-round results of his 1st
bout with ali(Cassius Clay) & he decked ali in rd. 15! I then knew I wanted to build my body like a "Smi=okin' Joe"! I began eating more, drinking milk & doing body-building exercises. My soph. year at Maine South HS(in Park Ridge, IL) I took boxing lessons after school from a top athlete there, Joe Niccolau(who held pull-up record with 45 pull-ups) & though he outweighed me 145 lbs. to my 120 lbs, I once decked him with a big right! I fought in '76 Chicago Golde Gloves & kept boxing in The Marines(76-80) & on The "Subic Bay Boxing team" in Philippines(77-78) with my pal & former Chicago
    "Golden gloves" Champ, Wiiliam
"BOOie" Gould! I kept practicing "Smokin' Joe's" left hook using my hook quite well in my real-life bouts(some are on Youtube, search for: David ROCK Nelson). Now, I'm a filmmaker, actor, I make "Monster" comedy movies & release them on dvd. I'm on Facebook as: David ROCK Nelson
Whenever I work-out, I think of Joe Frazier & his non-stoppin' never say die attitude, he's an inspiration to me to "Keep on Going" in the direction of my dreams. -David ROCK Nelson (on Facebook).

  73. Joe, here's your proven holistic cure. The one you are looking for. The one that brings people back from the dead and isn't connected to any gimmicks. It's just a diet that cleans cancer right out of your system and gives doctor's that "stupid" look on their faces.

It's called the "Budwig Diet" It's basically a mix of Organic Cottage cheese (or organic yogurt containing live spores) mixed with Flax Seed Oil (or any omega3 fatty acid product..walnuts, sardines etc.)

    The website is here
    http://www.healingcancernaturally.com/budwig_protocol.html

    The PDF is here

Get on it ASAP, and I'll see you in the ring!

  74. BTW, If you want to make the same German cottage cheese they mention in the Budwig PDF I found this product a while back.
    http://www.quarkmaker.com/how_to_make_it.html

I can't tell you what the stuff tastes like and I'm not affiliated with the above link(s). I just eat organic yogurt and walnuts every day and it wipes out the annoying AK pre-cancer cells like a charm.
